Setting Expectations

Amy • #3 due Nov 2024! | Seattle, WA

This can be a hard month to be on this app--it can start to feel like everyone in the world will have their baby before you. But MANY of us will go past our due dates, maybe even way past, and that may be exactly what YOUR baby needs.

Maybe take a moment and add 14 days to your due date, just to mentally allow that full term is a WINDOW. Mine is May 3rd, so allowing even the possibility of May 17th is very helpful for me.

Two other thoughts that help me:

1) Remember your first appointment (or few)? Was your due date ever changed, maybe more than once? Why would it be so "set in stone" now? This date you're putting so much weight on is really just everyone's best educated guess.

2) I KNOW you're uncomfortable. You're over it. You're ready for the next stage. Welcome to parenthood. Kids don't do things on your timeline--trying to force them to walk or read or whatever just leads to greater frustration for all. Not all kids with the same birthday walk on the same day, and not all embryos who implant on the same day are ready to be born the same day either. This is just your first foray into patience as a parent, and it will pay off.

Anyway, hope this is encouraging to someone out there!
