Tampon help!

I had gotten my period at my cousins house and all she had was tampons. I never used them before so I carefully read the instructions and used it as I'm supposed to. And I begun doing my normal thing such as playing video games with her brother and just lounging whereabouts and I begin getting jittery and have sharp pains in the vagina area to the point it hurt to even get up. I HAD to take it out and it hurt like hell in the process. Does this have to do with me still being a virgin? Or the fact it's my first time using them? I have played with myself and fingered before and such. All I can say is pads all the way. Lmao. Sorry it's a long one! I just need opinions. Thank you loves for reading!
