How does this sound…?

How would you take this statement? My bf, well (ex) was very pissed last night (and drunk) while talking to me and said with a very disturbing, serious look “I would kill a motherfucker for you” Now, am I overthinking this? Does anyone think that sounds like ‘he would kill someone if they actually hurt me’ or some other bs? I don’t want to take it too serious if it’s not meant to be that serious, but due to the fact that we just split yesterday is kind of concerning and I know his rage, which is why we parted to begin with.
