How long after moving in would you start expecting to get married?

This is more so for the people who are married or want to be married. My boyfriend and I moved in together around November/December of last year and were together for about a year before then. Lately I’ve been heavily thinking about getting married and was wondering if it would be too soon to bring that up to him. I really do love him and have known since we met that he’s the person I want to spend the rest of my life with. He tells me all the time that he wants to build a life with me, has talked about having kids with me and made other comments about us being together forever but never outright mentioned getting married.

I would wait year or two to see how it is living. There for extended periods of time to see what he does that you don't like and what you do that he doesn't like

Honestly marriage should’ve been discussed long ago. Do you know that he wants to get married?  That’s something you need to know before moving in if getting married is something you want for yourself. I’d discuss it right away if you don’t even know what he wants.

My husband and I met in August 2016. Moved in January / February 2018. Engaged June 2019. Married December 2020. Have a 4 week old baby. 
The thing is, this timeline was right for us, but every relationship is different. I wouldn't marry someone before living with them..... and I would want to live together a decent amount of time before getting married.

May be get married first and then move in? Based on American Institute of Family studies, all the studies since 1970 has shown premarital cohabitation is associated with greater odds of divorce in all age groups after first year of marriage. Marriage probably not a spontaneous outcome of cohabitation. Especially since I’m this case one is already living a married life without getting married.

Expect? Never. Maybe if we had talked about these things beforehand but living together doesn't mean you have to get married and if that is a priority for you, you have to tell him that and respect his opinion.

I don’t think there is a timeline to follow. Every relationship is different. I do think there should have been a conversation about marriage prior to moving in together if that’s a deal breaker for you. Just because someone wants to share a life with you doesn’t automatically mean they want marriage. I would ask him what his thoughts/feelings are about marriage and let him do the talking. Don’t lead with some thing like “I really want to get married sometime soon, how do you feel?” Because he might just tell you what you want to hear.

We got married after six years of living together. We had a two year engagement.

I don’t think there’s necessarily a correlation.
But I would wait at least a year of living together. Experience being sick in the same house, managing household bills for a whole year, learn cleanliness once comfort has set in…etc. 
I was living with my now husband before we started dating. Then we fell in love and he moved into my bedroom. 😂 Moved to other rentals over the next couple years. Finally got married after 6 years together and finishing college. Bought a house together. Had a baby. Now we’ve been together 9 years. 
I wouldn’t change a thing. Marriage wasn’t a priority as we already knew we wanted to be together forever but we wanted to get on a stable path before a wedding!

It depends how long you’ve been together. I think 3-4 years of a relationship, it’s time to talk about marriage. Once you move in, 1-2 years it’s time for marriage
