Weird name?

Is it weird to name a child after a pet who has passed? I love the name though.

Are you actually naming the baby AFTER the pet or you just like the name enough to use it again?

I think it’s weird if it’s the same name. But that’s just me!! We had a dog named Jessie and she passed a few years ago. Then we found a dog that looked just like her and we named her Baby J. This baby is going to be named Justin and I feel weird with the J names 😂

I had a dog named Millie (Millimeter) as a kid but it wouldn't dissuade me from naming my daughter Millie (Millicent) if that's the name I wanted 🤷‍♀️

I personally would find it weird. I do think a good number of people would find it strange if you said you named a kid after an animal, but it’s up to you and you don’t have to explain the backstory.

Depends on the name. I had a dog for 16 years named Duke, and he passed 12-31-21, and I've always loved the name Luke. I wanted to name my first Luke, but husband said was too close to Duke. I'm pregnant with my 2nd and Luke is still at the top of my list.

I wouldn't personally. But I also would not think twice or feel judgy toward someone if they told me their child was named after a beloved pet that was deceased.

I personally pick odd names for my dogs. My dogs were and are nala, stitch, Ramses, scotch, and butter (buttercup). So I’d have a hard time picturing it as my kids have traditional Gaelic names (we have scotch/Irish blood). If I loved a name enough, I probably still would

I don't think it's weird. People name their children after their late parents, siblings, cousins, friends etc. Why would a dog be any different? You loved them and they brought you happiness and joy. I've had two dogs in my lifetime. The 2nd one's name I love! If I had a daughter, I would consider it.
