How long does your lo eat?

Is there an exact time that the babies need to spend on the boob. In the beginning my son would stay on 20 + minutes now he seems to be staying on for about 10-15 minutes. At nights especially it's closers to about 10 -12 minutes. Once in a while he'll eat for 20+minutes now but that seems to happen more in the evenings. Some days he spends cluster feeding and some days he eats and goes right back to sleep. I'm EBF so I'm just under the impression that he's able to suck more milk out faster in a shorter amount of time?

Yes. What’s you’ve described sounds perfectly normal. Babies are very efficient. As long as he’s gaining weight and healthy I wouldn’t dwell on the time. Some days may be longer or shorter than other.

Yep in the beginning especially they take a long time to eat. They’re still learning, plus they get so sleepy and take forever to eat lol. As they get older they’re usually more awake and a lot quicker at getting the milk

My daughter was born premature by 5 weeks after getting out of the nicu at a weeks old my daughter was breastfeeding anywhere from 20-30 minutes at a time. By the time she was a month old she got efficient enough to only nurse for 5-10 minutes at a time. She gained weight fast even with the shorter feeds. As long as your baby is gaining weight that is all that matters.

I was told baby would let you know if they were hungry, i had a super fast let down, and did weighted feeds and in about a min have multiple oz out, so i never worried about it. Sometimes she was slower, somstimes she was a quick chomp and got her fill and was done.

Mine can do 3oz in 7 minutes, one side only. It just depends on the kid!
