2.5 year old tip toe walking ?

D

Anyone have a toddler who tip toe walked and grew out of it on their own? My 2.5 year old is tip toe walking and has been since she first started walking at 14 months. I’ve talked to her pediatrician about it. Her pediatrician said to put her in a specific brand of shoes (Stride Right) to help with the tip toe walking. She still does it, but less in the shoes. However, every time she takes her shoes off, she’s back at it full force. At what point do I see a podiatrist? I don’t want her feet to be messed up.

I guess I’m super sensitive to it because my sister walked on her toes and we never thought it was a problem. Then at 13, she finally saw a podiatrist who told us since she always walked on her feet, her arch was too high and her tendons to her ankle never grew their full length. So she literally could NOT walk on her feet. The tendons weren’t long enough. She had to have surgery and had artificial tendon added and her arch corrected.

As I said, doc gave a specific brand of shoes to use and we do, but it’s not like a prescription shoe. Anyone have experience with this- is there a prescription shoe I can request? Do I need to do more now to prevent future problems?

Thank you.
