Birth control

So I just started back on my birth control a week and a half ago. I was off of it for a few years. On the last day of my period, it was barley still there, my husband and I had unprotected sex. I figured since I was still on my period and starting the pill the next day I would be fine. My dr told me I would probably spot off and on a lot once I started taking it. I haven't done any of that. Over the last few days I've been craving eggs like CRAZY! My question is, would I have been fertile before I started taking my pills? I'm wondering if the crazy cravings are just from starting the birth control back.
