Using ovulation tests as a form of birth control, anyone else?

Hello there! So I am 9 months PP and have been experiencing some crazy side effects. We’ve switched 2 times and here I am having 2 week long periods which end for 5 days and I’m right back on my period. I’ve hit the point where I’m SO done with birth control. I’m looking to find someone who uses ovulation tests so they know when they are ovulating/when it’s not safe to have sex and how well it worked for you? How long have you been doing it?

It’s risky. LH doesn’t always rise predictably so you could have a very negative test one day and a very positive test the next. Since sperm live several days it’s easy have sex when you think it’s safe only to learn a day or so later that it wasn’t. If you really don’t want to get pregnant it’s not a method I’d recommend. Even with regular cycles you’d always be one “weird” cycle from an oops and our bodies aren’t machines. Even the most regular of us are off sometimes. And sometimes you get a positive, don’t actually ovulate but think you did, only to ovulate later after you’ve stopped testing. If you’d be ok with a surprise pregnancy then fine. But make sure you’re ok with the level of risk.

It’s called fertility awareness method (fam).
It can be done but it’s not 100%. It’s a 70-80% effectiveness when done correctly.
You have to have a regular cycle. You need to use opks and bbt. When temping, vaginally is ideal. It’s best to be tracking for 6m+ before dropping other forms of contraception so that you KNOW your cycle. 
My aunt got pregnant twice following FAM to a T. She ovulated early a random month and since sperm can survive up to 5 days, it just happened. 
Have fun with trying out different condoms until you are ready! That’s what me and my husband did to make condoms more enticing! Lelo hex ended up being our favorite!

Yes it can be done successfully but the idea behind this method is that you dont have sex 7 days before ovulation and 2 days after. 
You'd have to be very regular. I recommend a condom and a femcap and spermicide(you can google it and get it online i have one and love it.)

Tracking ovulation is how I accidentally got pregnant. Sperm can live inside you so avoid unprotected sex for that long before ovulation

I have a friend who uses BBT, not ovulation strips because those aren’t as reliable (in her opinion). She abstains or uses a condom during her fertile week (7 days before ovulation and 2 days after). It’s been her most successful form of birth control—she had a baby while on the pill and another with an IUD. But with recently having a baby and coming off a hormonal birth control I personally wouldn’t feel at all comfortable with only this method until I’d been tracking for several months to know that my cycle is regular and predictable.
