Magnesium sulfate and preterm labor
At 29w+6 my partner and I did the deed, which was followed by me uncontrollably vomiting for absolutely no reason. My partner helped me not to get it everywhere and when he thought it was all over I let him know I was cramping really strangely in just my back.
He fell asleep really quick, and I spent the next 3 hours laying in pain that just would not stop. Not wanting to disturb him with nothing as he works super early I called my friend and had her take me to the nearest hospital just to be safe. It was determined I was dilated 2-3cm and they decided to start me on 6g of magnesium sulfate. A nurse sat with me for 30 minutes, as I got increasingly warm and kept feeling like I kept peeing on myself which I mentioned, I also kept getting very confused but she kept telling me all was well.
She told me to press the call button in 10 minutes when I heard the IV machine beep, and left the room. This is where things got worse.
When I heard the beep I was unsure if it was something I seriously heard, I was on video chat with my friend who took me there and questioning her if she heard anything but she didn't so I pressed the call button and tried to fumble out that I wasn't feeling right which didn't work, no one came.
At this point I started feeling twenty times worse, and it had only been about 10 minutes. My friend still on video call I pressed the button again and as clearly as I could breathe out I said I really really don't feel well.
A whole team seems to rush in and surrounding me I stop being able to speak and all I feel I can do is gasp, feeling like I couldn't get any oxygen. They tell me my heart rate is 150, and put an oxygen mask on me. They stop the magnesium sulfate immediately, and slowly I start to come back to s normal state.
Over the next 24 hours I'm transferred to a different hospital and monitored for contractions and constant cervical checks I was having consistent contractions 2-5 minutes apart but could not feel them, they calm down eventually
At discharge my cervix remains at 2cm 50% effaced, and I still can't tell if I have any contractions because this pregnancy is all different than my previous. I am now 30w+1 at home I lost bits of my mucus plug before leaving the hospital, and my fiance has me basically on bedrest to be safe trying to keep her from coming too soon.
But the doctors kept telling me if labor starts back they will put me back on magnesium sulfate, and after the whole event I went thru I told the doctors I couldn't and didn't want it because clearly 21 years old 5 foot 1 150lbs can not handle such a high dose. They offered a 1g a hour dose I still didn't want, but they wouldn't not work with me on that at all. They said they had other things to stop labor but wouldn't offer them, and now that I'm home I'm back to being crampy and constantly afraid I'm in labor.
Has anyone experienced this with magnesium sulfate? We're you able to make it to term when labor stopped and they sent you home? I'm terrified.
