36 weeks will baby be sent for NICU eval even if he looks fine?

I’m wondering if anyone knows if my baby is born now at 36 weeks, even if he is showing no signs of issues, would they still send him for a routine NICU evaluation because he’s considered early?

I had my second son at 36 weeks exactly. They had a NICU team in the room and told me that he would likely have to go with them to check him out. They were shocked when he came out breathing fine and needed no NICU time.

No, not always, depends on the hospital. The hospital I used to work at would still have NICU at every delivery for assessment, but some 35 and 36 weekers were able to go to the regular newborn nursery. With that being said, most 35 weekers had to go to NICU and a good number of the 36 weekers.
