Can I decline the pap at my first appointment?

I’ll be 11 weeks but I’ve had two miscarriages in the past and would feel more comfortable avoiding that for the time being. I just had a pap in January so I’m not due for one.. is it entirely necessary?

If you just had one in January they more than likely won’t give you another since your up to date on it

Yes absolutely. It’s not *always* necessary in pregnancy. You can decline anything you don’t feel comfortable with. I personally don’t feel comfortable with getting a pap or cervical checks while pregnant, so I will just get a pap done after delivery.

you can decline it but it’s kind of important. paps don’t cause miscarriages but i understand the fear

Yes you can decline it. I wasn’t due for one and they still did it🙄 I’m a ftm and didn’t realize it wasn’t standard practice and that I could have said no. But just to ease your worries, a pap will not cause a miscarriage or lead to one.

They usually only give you a pap if you’re due for one. I haven’t had one this pregnancy and they didn’t even bring it up.
