I had my first baby a month ago, and my older sister (4 years older) is due with her first in January. Twice now, my mom has said that I ‘had to be first on something’ meaning she thinks I always felt like I was coming in 2nd to my sister and I got pregnant/had my baby when I did in order to do it all before my sister did. The way it came up yesterday was that my mom was holding my baby and my husband said something jokingly about how our baby will be second best to my sister’s baby when they’re born. And my mom said well this baby will always be #1, because (me) had to be first at something. This is very very wrong and both times I told her that’s definitely not the case, I’ve wanted to have a baby for many years and it just happened for us this past year.
