How do I get my son to stop nursing to sleep?

My son is 8 months old and has been nursed to sleep the entire time but sometimes is rocked to sleep if not hungry. 
I’m wanting to get out of this as I’m starting to think it’s affecting his sleep too much and I’m wanting a bit more freedom so my partner can’t help more. He does take a bottle every now and then but we are still getting him used to it. He also won’t take a pacifier. 
Any advice would be amazing

We started nursing about 30 minutes before bedtime and nap time. We also nursed in well lit areas and never in the bedroom. Then bedtime routine comes after nursing. It really helped for us.

A few things that worked for me (may or may not work for you):
-sucking their thumb or pacifier
-trying different positions when rocking baby to bed. By kid loved sleeping on my shoulder, but wouldn't fall asleep as easily if I rocked her in my arms.
-once you set them in bed, keep a hand on them for a few minutes since you're likely setting them down when they're more alert than if you fed them to sleep.
-start to sleep train them (Google for suggestions on how to do this since multiple methods exist)
