Why is online dating so hard?

Serious question, why does it seem impossible to find someone decent?

Read tips on online dating.  In a podcast I listen to, they had an expert come on during a segment stating profiles should and shouldn't have things to be noticed.. certain sites for certain ages, what you are looking for, etc. 
I met my husband online 10 years ago. He was one out of a crap ton that messaged me and I messaged my husband first lol but it's possible. It's not easy, but it's possible.

My now husband tried it on and off for 6 years with no luck until we met. 
I tried it ONCE, talked to one person and then him. Now we’re married. So I had good luck with it for sure. Totally weird

I'm happily married for 7 years.. one daughter and a baby on the way.. took me 3 partners to get to my husband.. and we wasn't even sure if we would work because of the distance but here we are.. there is decent men out there.

Unfortunately part of dating in any way is just luck, are you in the right place at the right time to meet the right person. With online dating you add in things like: Is your picture good? If it’s the kind with a profile, Does your profile come across the way you want it to? Have you not responded to someone because their picture or profile wasn’t good & maybe you missed out on someone cool? Are your parameters for what you’re looking for too narrow? Are you reaching out to people or just waiting for them to reach out to you? 
I met my husband on OKCupid back in 2013, I had been on there for over 3 months & he was the 3rd guy I went on an actual date with. He’d only been on there for 3 weeks. We were a 98% match. I messaged him 1st & asked him out for both the 1st & 2nd date. His son had just turned 3 a little over a month before our 1st date. I was really nervous about him having a kid, wasn’t even sure I wanted kids but I decided I should go for it anyway. I grew to love him & his kiddo & realized I definitely wanted to be a mom (we’ve been married almost 8 years & have a 5.5 year old daughter together) 
Long story short my point is I was lucky that I happened to be on there right after his divorce was final & he decided to date again. I tailored my profile to really show who I was & what I wanted but was also open to things I wasn’t sure about like kids. & I took the initiative sometimes & was the one to start conversations or set up dates. I don’t know how old you are but I didn’t meet my husband until I was 35, the waiting to meet someone decent definitely sucks so I just want to say I totally get feeling disillusioned & bummed out by it all.
