Do you close your lo’s bedroom door at night?

So my daughter is three and we just got her an actual twin bed. Whenever we put her down we usually just shut the door, but now that she is getting a “big girl” bed I’m wondering if I should keep the door open. She doesn’t know how to open door knobs yet and I don’t want her to feel like she’s stuck in there and I feel like closing the door on her is almost cruel. Right? I also want to leave the door open so she can go to the bathroom when she needs to, once we start nighttime potty training. However, I don’t want her to keep leaving her room to crawl in my bed. I may be thinking about it too much. What should I do?

We always keep bedroom doors closed at night as it's the safest in the event of a fire. Our toddler is still in his crib but we will continue to do so once he's moved to a toddler bed and just keep the monitor in there so we can see and hear him if he needs something.

My house burnt down a few years ago. I closed my door on the way out. As a result, my room was the only one in the house that had anything salvageable. Always close bedroom doors at night and when you're gone.

It’s safer to sleep with your doors closed at night. Although my 2 year old is still in a crib, when he transitions to a bed, I will still close his door. He currently naps on the floor of his room on a nap mat with the door closed. I hear him wake up. We also have a monitor so I see it too. Your child won’t feel trapped. It will also keep them from coming to your bed or roaming the house at night and getting in to things and possibly getting hurt. Not sure about the potty training situation haven’t gotten there yet. May have to figure that out when it comes along. ☺️

Yes. Mainly because it's a safety habit of mine. Shutting the bedroom doors at night can actually help save your life if their were ever to be a fire. My step dad was a firefighter so that has burned into my head ever since I was kid lol. If your daughter can't get the hang of a round doorknob I'd get one where it's a long handle type. But it's not cruel at all, and she will get the hang of it. Honestly it also helps with bed time I feel because my husband and I can still watch TV and talk without having to worry about being too loud.

lmao my son has slept in his room with door closed in his crib all night since like 4-5 months now he’s 18 months and for naps and bedtimes he’s great. I didn’t really sleep train him, I just stuck to a schedule. I literately brush his teeth and put him in his crib and walk out and shut the door and he goes to sleep on his own! I’m worried for the big boy bed part lol I would assume yes close door because you’ll hear her when she’s up! allowing her play time in the morning by herself when she first wakes up might be good idk lol i just wanted to share that i’ve been had his door closed haha
