Anyone used this?

So my daughter has a flat spot from laying on one side too much, but her special care pediatrician (she has several health issues so we visit a completely different hospital, where a team works with her so she has two pediatricians…) wants her to do occupational therapy, but her local pediatrician says not to worry about it and I’m panicking… Seriously trying to avoid the helmet for my little girl, as she already has so many doctors appointments wayyyy out of our way…. Plus I know the special care pediatrician just LOVES to suggest the use of helmets. Idk what to do??? I had a nurse friend recommend this but only with supervision (obviously)

As a Pediatric OT myself I would actually recommend PT 🤣 we can help with flat spots I guess but this isn’t quite our expertise area. Now if there’s other developmental milestones that are missing, like difficultly rolling, reaching, visually tracking, bottle feeding, etc we are the go to 🙌❤️ but if it’s a flat spot developing from let’s say torticollis, or something similar, PT would be my recommendation for that. A Little flattening is normal! Which is why your general peds might be saying it’s ok.
Some things you can do in the meantime to figuring out your next steps are opposite side holds with her back to your belly like pictured below to stretch out any tightness. Lots of tummy time as well, and limited time in things like bouncers, car seats, and so on. Hope that helps! Message me if you have any other questions

I would not recommend a pillow. 
I do highly recommend OT and/or PT!
Our baby did PT and wore a helmet for a flat spot. So glad we did both. Our baby’s case was moderate to severe-it wouldn’t have corrected with PT alone.

He’s shaking pillows (or any pillow) increases the risk off suffocation and SIDS. It is not recommended by the FDA or the AAP. Do more tummy time to keep baby from spending all of their time on their back and make sure you are turning the baby’s head to the side when you put them down to sleep. No need to put their life at risk when their are safe methods.

My son had a flat spot and we used a head pillow when he was playing on the floor and so forth from probably 2 months to 5 ish months and then he started to roll to his sides at night while sleeping and sitting up more to play and his has basically went away. He will be 9 months soon, his Dr never brought it up but it was a decent flat spot for sure

Make sure to lay her in different positions. 
Sometimes on her right side, sometimes on the left. 
I hope this helps her.
Also, I know they say you dont need a pillow for a baby when they sleep, but I highly recommend you purchase a baby pillow the one with a hole in the middle. Make sure the pillow os soft.

I did this with my daughter (with supervision only) and it didn’t work for us. She had to get a helmet for maybe 4-6 months I believe since it wasn’t too bad of a flat spot.
