Any potty training tips for me? (Boy mom)

Officially started potty training this week! So far, we've only had accidents. My son is going to be 3 in February! 
Any tips or advice? So far I'm trying my best to be consistent. He has his little toilet. I have a star chart (lol no stars yet!) And I have an M&Ms jar for incentive if he does pee or poo in the toilet. I also bought some books to read about going to the potty that he likes. He can't seem to connect the sensation to pee or poo and to actually go. I know this is going to be a long ride. How do I know when to stop and start again later?

Sounds like he's not ready yet. Focus on the books and the routine of going potty without the expectation that he actually use the potty for a while.

Both our kids were trained by 2 by doing this:
1. Let them see you use the bathroom so they know what's supposed to happen.
2. Make flushing fun! We always say 'bye bye pee!' And wave while flushing. I tell my kids all about where the pee goes. 
3. Let them be naked for a few days so they don't have the barrier of clothes to deal with when rushing to the bathroom. Then, go commando so they don't revert to thinking they have a diaper due to muscle memory. 
4. Positive reinforcement like cheering and compliments is much more sustainable than candy, and they won't get a sugar rush. If they have an accident, don't tell them its OK. Tell them they can try again next time, so they know they need to do things differently. 
5. If they're not going on their own yet, take them pee when they wake up and again every 45-60 minutes until they learn the sensation of having to pee and can decide to go on their own. Bring fun books to read while waiting on the potty to pee. 
6. Keep the toilet accessible, we kept ours in the living room until they were able to make it to the actual bathroom in time. 
Be patient with them and yourself; it's just another skill you're teaching them, and it takes practice.  💩
