Would you let your 12 year old daughter go to a high school basketball game with her friends?

The friends she's going with are in her class & they have older siblings in high school. I just can't decide if it's appropriate for her to go. She's not even into sports so i thought it was random.

I don’t know what went on at other people’s school sports events, but mine were nothing but innocent. Yes we didn’t pay attention to the game, but it was just somewhere for my friends and I to socialize. We never did anything inappropriate and I never witnessed anything inappropriate. I don’t see anything wrong with it, especially since it will be at the school.

Definitely not.... I went to the football games in high school with my friends and I can very much tell you it was not an appropriate place for 12 year old to be. Almost nobody sits around actually watching the game except parents that are there. Maybe you could go too and sit in the bleachers away from her and let her be a little independent but I would never let my 12 year old go to a highschool game by herself. 🤷🏻‍♀️

12 years old doesn’t seem like it’s very far in age from high schoolers, but the social scene is very different. I’d say at least one parent needs to be there. It doesn’t have to be you, but someone from the friend group.

It won't let me edit my post so here's an update! This was last night. I ended up letting her go. I drove her & her friend there & waited for them to go in then left. It was from 7:30-9 so not very long. She got home just in time for bed. :)

I graduated in 2018 and there wasn’t anything inappropriate going on at our indoor sporting events. My friends and I would sit at the top of the bleachers, play on our phones, and half pay attention to the game or stand out in the commons area. Football games were a bit different, but even then the craziest thing kids did was sit in the baseball dugout and make out.

In my town this was the thing to do. There was a special section at the game for the middle schoolers that was labeled. We all just went an socialized.
