BFP followed by a BFN days later ..

I took a test and got a faint positive both 3 days and the day before my period was due. 3 days after my period was due I started bleeding but it wasn’t the same as my usual period, also wasn’t implantation from what I’ve read. The 3rd day of bleeding as it settled down I took another test in the afternoon and it was a straight up negative. Does this sound like a chemical pregnancy or is the timing of the test a big factor too? Shouldn’t it have the faintest line of positive or HCG in my system to receive a positive beforehand? Any advice would be great.
