Birth control alternatives for lighter period

Does anyone have any knowledge of birth control alternatives? I experience extremely heavy and painful periods and it seems the only suggestion I get from my doctor is birth control, endometrial ablation or hysterectomy. I’ve been on birth control three separate times and I have severe side effects . I’m at my wits end because I feel like nobody can help me and it’s gotten to the point where I am missing work, school and events due to the severity of sickness on my period
