Born at 35 weeks

December 7th I was having a hard time getting comfortable in bed at night as I was having cramps so around 11ish I went downstairs to sit on the toilet to see if I could get any relief. After awhile and no luck, I got wiped and there was blood. I quickly messaged my mother and sister to which they said it was likely just my bloody show and to take some pain meds and go to sleep. Well I was still very uncomfortable and just felt like something was off. I went upstairs and woke up my husband to tell him that I was going to go to the hospital and that he needs to turn on the baby monitor on his phone so he can hear if our 16 month old wakes up. I drove myself to the hospital and get checked in around 11:30pm.

The doctors assumed I was having my bloody show as well but did a bedside ultrasound just to make sure baby was ok because I told them I couldn’t tell if he was moving since I was having such bad cramping. Baby was fine but my cramps were actually contractions that were happening every 1-2 minutes. They admitted me for monitoring so they could try to stop my contractions. After a few hours now and still no luck with stopping them, they checked to see if I was dilated but I was not. Then around 3 am, I felt a large gush of fluids but it wasn’t my water, it was a bunch of blood and it wouldn’t stop. Around 3:45am my husband was notified that I was being rushed into emergency surgery so he grabbed our toddler and ran him over to our neighbors house (so thankful her husband works early and was already awake. Apparently my husband just handed the husband our son and told him to take care of him 😂 No explanation or anything and my husband just left). Thankfully my husband arrived at the hospital after I was already prepped and right as they were starting my c section. Our second little man was born at 4:44 on December 8th at 35 weeks exactly due to a placental abruption.

We were not prepared at all. Hospital bag was not packed. We had nobody lined up to watch our older son, since children aren’t permitted in the hospital at this time. We didn’t even have the room set up or clothes put away 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was just starting to nest a few days before.

I lost a lot of blood and was apparently slowly bleeding internally for a few days leading up to it. I was able to leave the hospital after 4 days (hubby stayed home with our oldest) but little man had to stay for 19. We are finally home together and he finally got to meet his older brother.

My January baby just did not want to miss out on Christmas this year I suppose 😂

I just want to say how thankful I am for those who volunteer to make blankets and outfits for babies in the NICU. Also super thankful for the nurses that work there and kept me company everyday
