Does HPV go away permanently?!

Question

My Pap smear was abnormal in 2015 but it cleared and it’s been normal since. I’ve haven’t been sexually active since(due to religious beliefs). But I’m afraid that it would show up again. I hear mixed information like it’s only dormant or that it can leave the body or permanently clear. What have you heard and know?

I tested positive for hpv when I was 18. No symptoms, nothing ever came from it. I'm 31 & all my paps have been normal since then.

Depending on the type of HPV that you have, the virus can linger in your body for years. In most cases, your body can produce antibodies against the virus and clear the virus within one to two years. Most strains of HPV go away permanently without treatment.

Yes and no, once you have it you’ll have it for life but it goes dormant and may or may not “flare up” again. There’s no treatment, all you can do is get regular paps to make sure it doesn’t turn into cancer.

Did you test positive for HPV? Your pap can be abnormal for a few different things. If all you had was an abnormal pap, I wouldn’t assume you had HPV just from that.
