Books instead of cards?

Is it tacky/rude to ask for books instead of cards for my baby shower? Don’t want to come off as rude but cards are just a waste imo. Thoughts?

If it’s tacky then I’m guilty 🤣. To me, it’s way more practical! We mentioned we’d love preowned/preloved books, too, so that opened up a lot of options, plus we got lots of sentimental ones.

No, I did this at my baby shower. My invite read something like "we would love a book in place of a card!"
Everyone brought a book and wrote something sweet inside of it for my baby so I think its pretty special for my child to have books she can keep with these special messages inside from people who love her.

I don’t think it’s rude. This is what my SO’s mom planned when she planned my shower & people left their notes inside of the book they bought, now I have so many baby books. It’s a great idea!
