Birth control switch - ogestrel

Jess

I am currently taking a generic of Yaz (Gianvi) and omg has it helped with my periods. I had horribly painful periods starting in college and thought nothing of it until some of my friends mentioned how my symptoms weren’t “normal” and I was then diagnosed with endo and the possibility of PCOS, too, based off my symptoms. I’ve taken Loryna and Gianvi for probably the past 5ish years and they’ve been great. I recently switched to a new OBGYN and she recommended I switch to Low-Ogestrel-28. Of course, I googled it, and now am sorta regretting going down the WebMD hole.

So, my questions to you all are:

- has anyone switched from Yaz/generic to Low-Ogestrel?

- do you have endo? If you do, did you notice a difference?

- did you experience any/some/the bad side effects when switching from Yaz to the Ogestrel? Did they go away after a bit or did you switch to something else?

My new dr and I had a great convo, which made me feel good about the switch as she wants to lessen the frequency of my periods to keep the thickness of my uterine lining down (PCOS) and decrease the number of periods I have (endo and potential scarring). If I did the 3 month pack on the Yaz I had breakthrough bleeding for the entire 2nd month every time and I said screw this and stopped it. She recommended the ogestrel for this reason. I am just a little nervous because in high school a family dr prescribed a BC pill because I wasn’t getting a period every month (I had just started getting my period…) and I had HORRIBLE side effects: nauseous all the time; I blew up like a balloon due to water retention and gained so much weight so quickly; my periods still weren’t happening monthly; exhausted all the time; and, headaches. The dr said to keep taking it bc my symptoms “weren’t that bad” and I just “had to get used to it.” I stoped going to him after that… Of course I can’t remember the name and they don’t have the files yet.

I know this is a long post but I’d appreciate anyone’s input/experience/advice! Thank you!!
