Returning to work/giving notice

Hey ladies. I go back to work January 25th after using all my paid family leave. I plan to go into work that day and give my two week notice. Has anyone else done this. I feel like I don’t need to tell my employer until I return to work? It’s just the right thing for our family at this time. Does anyone have any experience like this and how the outcome was. Or did anyone speak to HR before their return date to let them know they were giving notice. Any input would be great.
