Asthma allergy to dogs?

Question

Can someone tell me more information regarding an allergy to dogs but symptoms aren’t runny nose, itchy eyes etc, but having trouble breathing? tried to research all over but overall a roommate is stating she can’t breathe around my other roommates new dog (hypoallergenic & probably the size of my hand, and literally I haven’t seen one piece of hair on anything). She has no inhaler or epipen but keeps mentioning she could die from being around this dog. I don’t want to not believe her because medical comes first but she’s been telling us all different things as if we all don’t talk and it’s getting hard to believe this. She’s been around other dogs and babysat them and just this all seems weird.

No dog is truly hypoallergenic. Dogs labeled as hypoallergenic are dogs that don't shed as much which means it's less likely to trigger an allergic reaction. However, the hair alone is not what always causes the allergic reaction. It's the saliva and urine that is attached to the dander on the hair.    And that indeed, can still trigger allergies in people who are allergic. ￼Another thing to think about is that a person who has severe dog allergy may simply be extremely nervous and anxious about being around a dog, and that in itself can cause breathing difficulty due to the anxiety. In both of those things are reasons to respect what is, she is saying about her allergy. She should have an inhaler with her or take allergy medicine when she visits you.

🙋🏼‍♀️ Right here. Allergic to dogs and cats. Caused my asthma to become extremely bad, constantly on steroid inhalers and oral. If her breathing was really that bad due to this dog, she would be on some sort of treatment like an inhaler. Plus if her allergy was severe enough that being around a dog could kill her she would absolutely have a pen on hand.

I am allergic to dog dander and saliva…. I break out in hives if they lick me and can’t breath from the dander and need inhaler ….. but on a side note I do own two dogs, I can’t sweep my floors as the dander makes it hard for me to breath ….. either my husband sweeps and  I go in a different room where it’s not floating in air or I go outside, we also have a roomba that helps out tremendously! Luckily the hair itself is not a bother we try to maintain the shedding so it’s not terrible when sweeping is being done! It’s a very scary situation but I love my babies as one is 13 and my other is 4. Always have inhaler or Epi pen on hand!

Unfortunately my son 😞 he’s anaphylactic to dog dander and saliva . We had a golden doodle which was supposed to be hypoallergenic but for the 8 months we had her he progressively got worse . We didn’t know he was allergic (I had him tested and the doctor mixed up the results and told us it was cat he was allergic to) anyway as time went on he started getting welts on his face , could barely breathe . It came to a head on Easter of last year we went to my moms she has a King Charles cavalier, which sheds like crazy. We were inside for about 15 min , he started acting really weird. Screaming crying , itching coughing, we left but it was too late . By the time we were headed home which was only five min away. He became unconscious and started turning blue , I tried to stick Liquid Benadryl down his throat but he threw it up . Thankfully I had the epi pen since he’s allergic to milk and egg. I hit him with that and he started breathing again. Spent a night in the ER . We had to rehome our dog and we can no longer go to peoples houses with dogs. It’s rare but it is a thing, repeated exposure to an allergen increases the reaction. So she could be fine one day and the next stop breathing from it.
