Alcohol and TTC?

Maggie
Hello! My husband and I are on our 2nd month of TTC. I just finished ovulating and we are going on date night. Is it best to completely stay away from all alcohol until I know if I'm pregnant or not this cycle? Better safe than sorry kind of situation?

Avie I will probably give in! Haha. We were thinking about going to a place called Mustards to eat. My BFF recommended it highly. Do you have any suggestions for restaurants and winery's? We were thinking about going to Sterling Vineyards.

@monica - napa is one of my happiest places on earth :) I am sure you can do a few wine tastings - after all each is only a sip! Are you going to any of the restaurants?? There is so much good food there as well as wine.

DH's parents are flying into California on the first week on Feb (Ovulation week) and we are driving up to Napa Valley for a vineyard tour!! I want to drink wine so bad during that time but nervous to even try! I told myself this month I'd drink no wine or beer. Trying to stay strong. Lol

I read a study that said the women who drank alcohol during conception and implantation were 2-3 times less likely to become pregnant than those in the study that didn't consume alcohol.

Only drink on your period to ovulation. So many babies are the product of alcohol and if you only have a couple of drinks you will be fine.

Your welcome!! I've been to a few trainings regarding this topic. It's definitely a touchy topic as well. It's best to be very informed I figure :) When I went to school 2 ladies came in and did a presentation. One of them who had been diagnosed with FAS. They put a shot of vodka in a cup then cracked an egg in it. It slowly cooks the egg. This is how they described what it does to your fetus with excessive amounts. It was crazy! FAS is a brain injury and not curable. Anyway ladies I wish you all the luck and baby dust!!! Hope to hear of BFP's soon!!!!

Thanks for the s the advice! I don't think I am going to drink at all until we know if this is the month or not. I won't be able to enjoy it as much. Anymore info on this topic would be great, too. I think this is a common question. Best of luck everyone !

It wouldn't let me post the whole comment!! What the alcohol does is kill sells if drank in excessive amounts. The cells that it could kill don't develop. Think of it as a pyramid starting with one cell and growing out. Once one of those sells are killed then whatever that cell what suppose to be no longer develops. Really it's preference and a lot of women don't even know they are pregnant till the 2nd or 3rd month and worry because they drank once. But their children are all healthy. So I really think it takes ALOT of alcohol. They say binge drinking is when something like this most likely could happen. So I wouldn't feel bad for one drink here and there enjoying your dinner. But again that's up to you and your preference. Good luck and sending you baby dust!!! :)

There isn't any facts about the amount of alcohol that can harmful to the fetus - however day 18 or in and around there is the period if excessive amounts of alcohol are consumed your child "could" end up the FAS and have the facial features. Dr.'s say that a drink here and there obviously not knowing your pregnant you should be fine. I mean personally I wouldn't consume any. But that's me. I have worked with plenty of children with FAS and the long term effects. It's pretty much scared me off having any!
