When should we start TTC?

My DH and I want to have a baby around May 2015. I know it can take months even years to conceive. When is a good time to start trying? 3 months  before the target month? Or is that too far in advance? I'm already monitoring ovulation and CM. I'm also starting prenatals per doctor's orders next month.

I'm in same boat as you. Although I don't like the idea of 'planning' for a specific timeframe, that month would be ideal due to my work situation (self employed piano teacher).  We are also going to Peru at the beginning of July 2014  and will be doing a big hike at a high altitude, so it wouldn't be safe to get pregnant before that. So we are going to start TTC  while we are in Peru (so probably the second week of July).

Im assuming since you are monitoring ovulation that you are not taking any kind of hormonal birth control? If you are, make sure to stop that at least 3 months before ttc. If it would be bad for you to get pregnant before may 15, then I wouldn't start trying early- yes, it could take awhile, but you could also get pregnant the first month you try. If it's just not ideal, but not bad to get pregnant earlier, then go ahead and start trying early. Either way, it would be a good idea to start exercising and eating healthy now, if you aren't already. Good luck!
