To young to have a baby?

Question

I'm 20, I go to uni full time (however I'm rarely on campus) studying fine art, I also work part-time at weekends. I have a friend in a similar situation and recently we've been considering having a baby together. So my question is, do you think I'm to young to be planning this? This isn't a spur of the moment thought. This is after months of consideration. Thanks in advance for any replies! :)

You sound like you don't plan to start a family with the other person, you just want to have a baby.
​Having a baby is so much more than gestating an infant for 9 months. It requires emotional stability in a good relationship (unless you can't help it), the physical capacity to care for that child including time to invest (the first year involves a whole lot of sleep deprivation) and financial stability if you can help it.
​If you aren't sure of your partner's capability to stand by you through it all, please do not consider it. It's really hard doing it alone. If your time is wrapped up in many other things, you'll be surprised how hard it will be for you. Many people have dropped out of school and given up careers for that reason; balancing the time is very tricky. Finally, a baby costs a lot, so consider that as well.

I have a suggestion for you. Test yourself. In one week, sleep only 30 min to one hour a night getting a total of 3-4 hours of spotty sleep. Don't eat or shower except in a 5-10 window during the day. Do everything else except your schoolwork or things you want to do. Don't talk on the phone or text cause you don't have time. If after one week of doing all of the above you can continue to operate and also get yor school work done and make a living to support yourself I say go for it!

I had my son when I was 20. I worked full time and graduated college the same semester I gave birth to him! I took 17 hours and worked, I believe that being a young mom has it's benefits.

I would say wIt til marriage, or a career with benefits. there are different legal things you must consider when having a child out of marriage, like custody, naming, health insurance, do you or the father have insurance that will cover a baby, do you have your own place or will y'all be staying with parents? And if you are how involved are they in this?  Just think about where you both are in life and where you want to be for this baby, and how rushing will slow your progress for where you want to be.

​ I can't imagine going through this without it. Just really try to sit down and plan it out down to the detail before you make a final decision. Look up how much a baby coasts, what you need to get, the different doctors around and all that jazz. Get your family involved if you want because it always helps to have them on your side. (Believe me) And good luck with you decision and art school! (I'm so jealous, art school is a dream of mine.)

I had my kid when I was 19. I hadn't even finish school. I didn't have a career. I thought I was ready to be a parent, but being a parent is much more than loving your kid. Is being able to give them what they need, and clearly with a $10.00 hr job, I am not able to give my baby everything he deserves. 
​So my advise is think about it. Over and over, having a kid is expensive. If you can't give your kid the best things in life, wait till you can. I'm sure when you're done with school you will get even a better income than the one you're earning right now. Believe me, you and  your kid  are going to be able to enjoy each other more. If you have a better income there is even the possibility that you can skip days of work to be with your kid. If you don't have a very well payed job, you might not have other option than to leave your kid with someone else while you have to go to work.

In my opinion naming nor marriage is particularly relevant. Also, if you're in the Uk, insurance is neither here nor there. I don't agree that to have to have a steady job with benefits but certainly in the uk it is easier with maternity leave. That said my drop in wage on maternity leave would leave me fairly worried. Not sure what the state gives in maternity allowance but I'm fairly sure it's not much less than I would get on my £30k job but then it does affect other befits such as job seekers and ESA.

I'm don't worry I'm 14 and pregnant having the baby I'll be 15 I'm not proud of my self but if it happend it happend everything happend for a reason I will never do an abortion no matter how young I am it's my baby I'm not ruining what it can be one day

Im 16 and am pregnant i wouldnt ever get an abortion ever. But my pregnancy wasn't planned.
