I once heard a guy say that he would eventually ask his girlfriend (of a very long time) to marry him "when she deserves it." Their marriage lasted less than a year and they were not good to each other at ALL. I'd be upfront with your boyfriend - is he serious about being married to you, or is he stringing you along and wasting your time? Five years is long enough to know for certain, unless you are still very, very young and are still growing into the people you will become. Good luck!
