Home birth after eclampsia?

Question

Is it practical? My hospital births were horrific. And expensive. I want one of those magical experiences that women get with home or water birth. I'm jealous of my friends who got to have babies at home. My husband is adamant about being at a hospital with a real doctor because of my medical history, but we don't know for sure that I'll get sick again with this baby. If there's a chance, I want to have a home birth. Am I being stupid?

I had preeclampsia with my first and I know how you feel with wanting to have a good experience with your next.  I wouldn't attempt a home birth myself, but if you ended up getting eclampsia again you would most definitely have to be in a hospital to deliver.  If your pregnancy goes well, though, you might be able to.  I feel like it's really risky since you've have problems in the past, but you could talk to a doula or midwife, whoever would be performing the birth and see what they say.  Chances are you would show symptoms before birth if you were to have complications again.
