Think i did my hpt wrong

I just did a hpt and my urine stream wasn't constant I kept stopping then starting, does this effect the test and can mak it false? I got a negative but I don't want to believe it because I just feel like I am and have symptoms too, AF is 5 days late.. :( going doctors on Monday..
