Weight gain

So I gained about 50 lbs since I started birth control, about a year ago. I gained over 30 lbs in the first four months of being on the depo shot. I then switched to the pill and have gradually been gaining more and more weight. My mom thinks it was my birth control, but it may be something else. Has anyone experienced this amount of weight gain on birth control in this short of a time?
