Dental Assistant/Dental Hygienist

I'm so confused! My goal is to become a Dental Hygienist in the near future, but I'm debating if I should get a Dental Assisting diploma first then work my way up first, or go to school to get the degree in Dental Hygiene.

The problem is, I don't have much money to work with if I go straight to getting my Dental Hygiene degree. I refuse to take major student loans for the fact I don't want to spend so much time paying them off (family members have taken loans and it's a pain in the ass)

I need some help!!!
