Advice on OPK's?

Hey all! So I'm fairly new to TTC and opk's and had some questions.  Is there a certain time of day I should take the opk's?  The directions say I can use FMU or wait 4 hours and then test but I've seen a few posts on here saying not to use FMU.  Also, does anything I eat or drink effect the results of an opk?  Any advice on how to get the most accurate results for an opk would be much appreciated!! Baby dust all around!!

Your LH surge typically happens the highest at 2:30pm. I had issues getting real positives with OPKs until I 1) let it get to room temperature before using the OPK and 2) testing as close to 2:30 as possible. Some women test once in the morning and once in the evening so they don't miss the surge. Some can use FMU and be just fine. The thing with testing as close to the surge as possible, is if you don't, you could miss the surge by about 12-24 hours and by the time you think you get a positive, you've already ovulated, if that makes sense. So BDing every other day in your fertile window is a really good plan on in case that happens!

I always use FMU--I drink too much water throughout the day to test later
​.  I have read that if you use FMU and get a + you are actually getting the previous afternoon's surge (as our hormones are produced later in the day) and so should assume ovulation will occur in 12-24 hours rather than 24-36 hours.

In general it's better to test mid-day. But there are some opks that say use fmu.

My RE said to use FMU, so that is what I've always done.
