Asking my mom for birth control? Advice?

I'm 17 and ready to have sex with my boyfriend but the only catch is asking my mom for birth control. I don't want to do it behind her back and I want to be protected. I just don't know how to ask her or even bring it up to her, any advice? I'm thankful for any and all answers!

I'd put it like this. Mom I'm ready to take control of my body. I want to start taking bc not because I'm ready for sex but because I want to be responsible that if I do find myself in the situation it might happen I'm making sure I'm doing all I can to be safe.  I want to be able to regulate my period so I'm more prepared for it so I don't have surprise days at school.

Regardless of how awkward and nervous you make be please please talk to her! I was very irresponsible and wouldn't speak to my mom about contraceptive and I was very immature and assumed "I couldn't get pregnant! Not me" well I ended up pregnant senior year of high school. I love my daughter and she's perfect however I look back and wish I was smart and took precautions instead of trying to use the pull out method or conforms.

I hope that your mom would be proud that you are being so responsible, honest and mature. If not, use protection and you can always go to planned parenthood without her knowing. It's your body, you are almost an adult, and it's much better to be on birth control than to end up pregnant at your age.

Just be honest with her. Say you are ready to start birth control, and hope she respects your decision to practice safe sex. As a side note, make sure you and your SO have been tested otherwise please use condoms as well.

Thank you so much for all the answers im really stressing out about this. My mom and I just dicussed birth control in general (not specifically me going on it) and she is so against it she has a strong idea that teenagers need to wait until marriage. I don't know what to do. I don't want to go to planned parent hood because I may be almost 18 but I'm still a child and I'm scared to go there. But I also don't want to just use condoms because I don't know any brands that are extremely reliable in protecti me

Hmm when I went for birth control I just did it. It wasn't behind her back and when she asked about it I told her. 
​Since you're trying to be more open maybe ask her about her first etc then say you just want to take precautions. You would hate to be caught in the moment and not have any preventative 
​Or lol if you don't wanna talk about sex with her just say it's for your periods lol
