Deciding to start trying for a baby..

How did you and your partner decide to start trying? Did one bring it up and just ask? Or was it more of a mutual thing? Have you and your partner always been ready? When did you decide it was the best time to start? My husband and I really want kids. I want to start now, but I'm nervous to ask and have him think it's not the best time to start.
