Confused?

So, the guy I like had a gf that he dated on again and off again for 7 years and was completely hurt by that girl because she ended up pregnant but giving their kid away; closed adoption w/o him knowing. And then he meets me, a old friend. Now he really really really likes me and it shows he cares for me a lot. Now after 6 months I find we're getting super close and are having sex but he's not ready to date. He wants to get his life together before he starts dating again. What should I do? He still talks to his ex and is still her friend and has finally forgiven her over all these years, which I encouraged him to do, b/c it's healthy, but I'm afraid he might go back to her. He isn't having sex with anyone else, and as far as I'm concerned he isn't with her b/c she still pisses him off, and I got him to actually start having sex again and to open up his trust again, but should I keep trusting him even though he's friends with her or should I count my loss and keep my interest open? Or should I walk away completely?
