Experience with depo shot?

My friend said she was on it for 7 years and loved it no periods and worked great as birth control. Also her period came back pretty regular when she stopped. What is everyone else's view or personal experience with it?

I felt like I didn't realize that I was wanting more to eat and notice that when I went for my shot every 3 months my weight got higher and higher and I was like hold up!! Then my doctor was like that's one of the side effects. So I completely stopped!! And it took me a year to lose all the pounds I gained. Just research or talk with your doctor for side effects.

My sister in law cannot conceive children now because of the depo shot. So if you want kids anytime in your life, I'd avoid it.

I was on it for only 6 months, that was all I could stand. I never stopped bleeding! Now that I know its been linked to osteoporosis I wish I'd have never taken it. The depo shot needs to be done away with IMO.

I was on it for a year did really well, after that by 14-18 months my body didn't react to it well. Mood swings, unexplained weightloss (30 pounds in 4/5 months), constantly nauseous, depression... Ect. 
Just stay away. 
Use nuva ring, I'm using it and I love it!!! (Btw my body does not take well to hormones, so if I promote it I reallllyyyyy like it)

My sister was on it and at the age of 18 has osteoporosis because of the shot.

I didn't gain much weight using depo but I had the most extreme mood swings which almost destroyed my relationship. I used it for 2.5 yrs and it took another 2 yrs after my last shot to start ovulating again. Apparently it's not actually designed for long term use because of the effects it has on long term fertility.

It was ok for me but I gained 50 lbs with it and I stopped because my weight was getting out of control. It worked but not for me:(
