Does metformin bring on period?

I have PCOS and have been on metformin for about a month. I was supposed to get my period somewhere between dec 13 and 19th but it has not come.  I've taken 4 pregnancy tests, all negative.  I called and left a message with my dr with the same question but will not hear back for a few days.  I thought metformin helped regulate it but I'm starting to wonder if I was wrong. Anyone know what the deal could be?

At frist the dr prescribed me 500 mg of metformin, but after a 1 months of taking that my period did not come so she upped my dose to 850 mg twice a day and that seemed to do the trick.

My dr told me that metformin is an insulin beta blocker; research has shown that women with PCOS develop diabetes so the metformin is supposed to stop or prolong that from happening.

I was told by my OBGYN that it is supposed to help but it wasn't enough for me. I had to take birth control and the Metformin to bring on a period. Baby dust to you! I understand your frustration!

It can but it depends on your body 
If your trying to conceive you should ask about taking clomid along with metfomin .

To conceive my son the doctor had me on birth control for three month to get my period going .
I started dexo for ten days along with clomid for 5 days . I was on metfomin this whole time and first round I got pregnant .

Trying for baby number 2 same process no luck this time. Taking a break but ask about clomid

No, not necessarily. I am on 2000mg Metformin a day and am not having periods.

I was regular And it seems like it stopped it. Had I guess spotting, not same color or consistency. Any one else have this problem? Not sure what's going on.

I was on a 78 day cycle for months. I started taking 750 and it's slowly brought down my cycle closer to a regular range. I'm down to 38 days right now. Metformin was making me sick so I stopped taking it after my last period. I go in for my annual in a couple of weeks so I'm going to see what she recommends next.

Wow thank you so much how kind of you!  And thank you for responding!  I finally heard back and my dr said the same thing.  Now I can't help but wonder if the metformin isn't enough to bring on my period if maybe it's also not enough to help me get pregnate?  Sigh!  So many questions! Baby dust your way too!!
