Too early to test?

Okay so I am on Day 39 of my cycle still no af and I'm wondering if I should take my test today even though it's not my first mornings Pee like I've heard you're supposed to do because I am going to see my in-laws tonight and I like to tell them it was soon as I know or should I just wait till tomorrow that's when I'll be seeing my family and tell them what are your thoughts? I went ahead and bought a test at the dollar store while I was picking up stocking stuffers but I think it only has one.
