Custody/child support advice?

I'm about to have my first child any day now and I'm not with the father. He has expressed many times he wants to be in the child's life and support and raise him with me but he also has a bad drug habit and just got a job last week for the first time in years. His track record with jobs isn't great. His drug use is bad and his friends are all drug users I don't want around my son. I know it depends on state but does anyone know some general laws about custody? I don't want him to see my son, or have any say if major decisions.
