period or implantation?

For the past two weeks I have had cramping and some mild nausea. this past week I had started noticing spotting of brown and red since last Wednesday. I just started my placebo pills Monday and have continued spotting red but the blood seems to be a little heavier but still does not fill a tampon. Could this be my period or is it just this continued spotting?? Please help.
