If after dating and once living together you realize your partner is an alcoholic what would you do?

I used to be an alcoholic. I drank every single day, most of my days ended in a blackout. I met my current SO on a drunken night. After he listened to me puke over the phone for 2 hours straight one night (I felt It necessary to down a bottle of Jager within 15 minutes), he told me if I kept drinking he would leave. I've been sober over 2.5 months and he was so proud of me for quitting he bought me a promise ring! :) so I say offer support. Not leaving immediately.

I would leave. Its as simple as that, especially if they don't want the help. Alcoholism is a deadly disease that affects everyone.

Depends. If they became abusive (any kind) when drunk, then absolutely, I would move out asap. If they weren't and actively seeking help, then probably not.

I left my ex because he was a drunk. I tried to help him but he wouldn't help himself. I was drained of my money and my energy so I left. So so glad I did!

My friend was killed by her alcoholic husband. (Much more to it, please no cruel comments) Since her death, I told my bf if he becomes one, I will leave. Every situation is different though. Do what you think is best for your kids and you. I wish you the best of luck.

My husband abuses alcohol. He doesn't drink all the time, but when he does he doesn't know how to limit himself. I stay with him because I love him. I recently had a talk with him about not drinking excessively anymore and since he has been doing well. He & I both know that he has a problem & I have made it clear that if he gets shitfaced again and becomes belligerent I will leave! I have children to think about and I won't have them around him in an unstable condition

As long as this person isn't abusive toward you, be supportive and offer help. If they don't think they don't have a problem, then I would leave, but let them know that you care about them. Addicts can be manipulative, but will behave that way because they do not feel people will love them for who they are. Don't let him lie to you, but don't go out of your way to make him feel worthless either.
