contraction dummy

I've been experiencing irregular contractions since about 26-27 weeks, at about 31 weeks I was having more frequent Braxton hicks but still very irregular. and painless but definitely noticeable and sometimes uncomfortable. I'm now 34 weeks pregnant and tonight in the past ten minutes only though I've had two contractions that actually hurt. why are they hurting now?
