Of course there has lately been a large controversy over 50 shades of Grey lately and how horrible of a person Christian is for being a Dom and Anna should have never given into being a Sub. I personally did not read the books, but I watched the movie with some friends. Afterwards all of my friends were talking about how freaky it was for someone to be into that kind of sex. The guy I have recently started seeing has also put me off as freaky for wanting to be a Sub. It there truly something wrong with me for wanting to be dominated so drastically?

Nope. 
Nothing is *wrong* with you.
Everyone has different levels of what is acceptable for them sexualy, yours is just higher than what is deemed normal by society. And being a sub, is not just about sex, it's more about trust between a Sub and Dom.
I am currently in a unofficial dd/lg style bdsm relationship outside of my marriage, and it's wonderful, but if I did not trust this man, I would not be interacting with him.

True BDSM is nothing like the 50 shades movie or books. I have been a slave to my husband for 5 years now. I love being flogged, bound, humiliated, ect. My husband/master also enjoys himself while dominating me. I would suggest doing some real research on BDSM relationships. It doesn't make you a freak. But, you can do lots of research and find ways to ease him into the BDSM lifestyle. 
Example: tell him you want to try hand cuff and a blindfold and just work together to find limits the both of you are comfortable with.
