What age did you/will you talk to your kids about the birds and the bees?

At what age is it fairly typical to start having "the talk" with your children? Do you approach the subject first or do you wait until they have questions of their own? What about the education they'll receive in school? Is that enough or is more detail from mom or dad necessary?

I won't ever have the "talk". I will always be open and honest about sex. I will answer all the questions in an age appropriate way when they ask. I'm not afraid to talk about it. My 2 year already knows the appropriate names for his body parts.

I will not depend on schools at all. We will start young with good touch, bag touch. I plan to revisit this around 5th grade and as I see needed

Good touch/bad touch can never start too young in my mind. My mom was abused as a young girl, and she certainly made me & my sisters aware of not letting most people into our "swimsuit area" when we were preschool age. The actual mechanics of sex can wait until preteen age, but make no mistake, they will get misinformation by that age from their peers & the media.

In a certain grade you will learn about sex and everything else but I didn't learn that till grade 9 when I was 14 and I didn't get teached everything I really should know.. The way everyone at 12,13,14+ is having sex I think age 10 is good. They certain have to know earlier these days.

I had the talk at 7 because i heard that was a good age but they only understand limited infornation. Then 12 when started liking boys and having her period. It was pretty detailed from diseases to pregnancy to stretchmarks, love.. all of it.

Seeing that girls start their period as young as 8 that's when I'll bring it up.
