When starting to use opk's you should start from the day after your period ended for the first month as you could ovulate earlier than average , 2nd month start from 3 days before your positive the previous month x

I started testing a day too late and missed my ovulation and got pregnant without knowing I ovulated! I was my 2nd cycle off birth control (first cycle was 35 days). I'd say to start earlier!! My husband didn't believe it since my temp was high for 3-4 weeks, but we never got a positive ovulation test. Finally got the BFP and 9 weeks now!
