opinions please! should we find out our baby's sex?

Question

Neither of our families found out our genders and say it was the best surprise imaginable, but I feel as though times have changed and I'm really conflicted as to whether I want to find out the sex or not!! I'm 17 weeks and four days at the moment, my next scan is in three weeks I just have to decide before then!

We're not finding out. There are few mysteries left on this world and we wouldn't be buying pink clothes even if we knew it was a girl! Blue yellow green grey purple red - they fit all babies!

I don't really understand why anyone NEEDS to know. The argument of buying gender specific clothes doesn't make sense to me. I think it's much better to buy some gender neutral clothes then once the baby comes, if you really want pink or blue, then do it. We are keeping it a surprise

I'm not going to because I believe it's one of life's only true surprises and should be treated as such. I'm hoping my desperation to know will help me through labour. I love the guessing game and all the speculation from family and friends!  I would also be tempted to buy loads of non gender neutral newborn stuff, which makes no sense if you're planning on having more than one xx

I found it easier to pick our names after knowing what it was.  It eliminates almost half of the selections and allowed us to think more realistically about our child.

We found out early because it was still a surprise, just not a surprise during labor. I found out first and got a nice fun gift for my husband, and it was a really emotional moment and nice to have that little jolt of reality in advance to the major jolt we'll get when she's actually born. I don't know why really, but we just wanted to know. Not for any real reason except an inclination. It's not really changing our purchasing plans; in some way knowing now I feel more bonded to the baby but that's just me. Go with your gut-- this is an area that is purely a matter of personal preference, in my view.

It's fun finding out early! Because then you have a face! Like, I always imagined my baby taking the characteristics of the parent according to gender.
I'm having a boy, so I imagine he's gonna be handsome like daddy!

I couldn't imagine not finding out! We have a girl, and everything we have is gender specific so I feel like we need to know weather to get rid of things and buy new or if we are able to wash and hand down! With our first I wanted a girl so badly that I couldn't wait to find out. It was pink everything! My Bestfriend is pregnant and floating with the idea of finding out or not. And wants my help making a registry. Everything is so gender specific in the stores I couldn't imagine making a registry without knowing. To each is own. I feel it is something you and your so Ned to figure out. Try going to babies r us and walking around..

I'm finding out- I would love to wait but I just can't. My sister didn't find out and I found it so irritating not being able to buy certain things- plus I'm having baby #4, I need to plan things.

Everyone is different! I think, if you can handle not knowing until birth, do it for your first at least! I could easily handle not knowing until birth, but I'm loving the idea of a gender reveal baby shower. I would still get gender neutral clothes and whatnot, but then I'd be able to get something personalized for baby before birth, like a delivery blast with baby's name on it or something. ☺
